PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Calvert County is taking the first steps to get funding for 2027 transportation projects from the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA).
According to a memo submitted by Director of Community Resources Jennifer Moreland, the county’s application includes requests for operating and capital funds from Sections 5311 and 5307 of the Public Transportation Program, as well as Sections 5303 and 5304 technical assistance funds. The total requests are $2,260,304.
The grant requests are broken down by type:
- Section 5311/5307: $1,154,506
- Section 5303/5304 Technical Assistance: $100,000
- Special Transportation Assistance Program (SSTAP): $305,768
- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA): $157,830
- Rideshare/Commuter Assistance Program: $8,730
- Capital Funds: $533,470
Additionally, the county’s operating and local capital match is $634,182. The county funds support the costs of salary and fringe benefits for three transportation staff members and cover a portion, 15%, of the capital expenses.
Once the county applies for the grant funding, MDOT MTA will review the requests as a part of its state budget process. If approved, the funding will be included in the FY27 county budget.
The grant requests were approved by the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) to go forward as a part of the consent agenda at the March 24 meeting.
