Sergeant Todd Ireland of the Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office was honored with the Maryland Sheriffโ€™s Association Deputy Sheriff of the Year Award for Contribution to Profession on Saturday, September 10th in Ocean City, Maryland.ย ย  Sgt. Ireland was recognized for his drive and dedication in his ability to perform his responsibilities as shift supervisor while additionally managing the Special Traffic Enforcement Coordinator, which in itself is an extremely demanding position.ย  Furthermore, Sgt. Ireland actively managed all the traffic related grants, the Smooth Operator Campaign, the school initiative known as Operation Seahorse, School Bus Enforcement, R.A.I.S.E. {Residential Area Increased Speed Enforcement} efforts, Sobriety Checkpoints, DUI saturation patrols, Commuter Enforcement on Maryland Route 4, and the Chiefโ€™s Challenge (seat belt usage program) which resulted in the Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office receiving statewide recognition and the Chiefโ€™s Challenge Award.

If all this were not enough, he also continued to work closely with the Traffic Safety Council, the Public Safety Advisory Committee and Comcast Cable to develop traffic safety commercials.ย  He is also a member of the Maryland Reconstructionist Task Force.ย  Sgt. Ireland also chaired the Fair Committee for the Sheriffโ€™s Office, was a participating instructor in the Criminal Justice Program in the county schools, and participated in numerous other county celebration committees and various coalition meetings on behalf of the Sheriffโ€™s Office.

It is important to also note that all of this was accomplished in his first year as Sergeant.ย  For performing above and beyond expectations, he was presented this prestigious Statewide Award by Sheriff R. Thomas Golding, Sheriff of Harford County, Maryland, at a ceremony in Ocean City, Maryland.
