SOLOMONS, Md. Calvert Marine Museum is inviting guests with disabilities and their families, friends or caregivers to enjoy an exclusive and supportive evening at the museum. The museum will be open solely for these guests and their families, friends and caregivers free of charge on Friday, Sept. 12, from 5 to 7 p.m.

The museum is collaborating with Calvert Parks and Recreation (CCPR) Therapeutic Recreation Services to host the event. Guests can take part in everything the museum has to offer, like visiting the resident sea creatures such as skates and jellyfish, exploring the Discovery Room or checking out the sea otters, in a supportive and relaxed environment. A calming room will be available during the event, and Salted Scoop food truck will also be onsite with farm-fresh ice cream.

There will also be three opportunities to take a shortened ride on the Wm. B. Tennison with departures at 5 p.m., 5:45 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. These cruises will be 30 minutes long.

Though the event is free of charge, CCPR recommends pre-registering online and advises that tickets must be booked in advance through the museum at 410-535-1600, ext. 8204 or 8205, to ride the Wm. B. Tennison.

Calvert Marine Museum’s goal is to preserve and share the area’s paleontology, estuarine life and maritime history. The museum hosts numerous events throughout the year, including the popular summer event SharkFest, and interested guests can check out the events calendar to see what’s coming. In addition to special events, the museum hosts concerts, recurring activities and gives kids the opportunity to have their fossils identified by a real paleontologist.

The museum’s regular hours are Sunday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

CCPR Therapeutic Recreation Services’ offerings can be found in the seasonal catalog; the fall catalog is available and is the most up to date.
