Gayathri Plakkot of Huntingtown High captured the high school Grand Prize in the 2017 Science Fair held recently at Calvert High School. Isabelle Du Bois of Southern Middle won the middle school category. Both Grand Prize winners received a plaque, $100, and a $100 Visa gift card, complements of Educational Systems Federal Credit Union. In addition, Gayathri was awarded a $750 scholarship from the Southern Maryland Association of Realtors.
Dr. Daniel D. Curry Superintendent, said, “The Science Fair gives students the opportunity to conduct in-depth research on a topic that intrigues them. We are very proud of our participants and grateful to our partner organizations.”
In addition to the Grand Prize winners, Calvert High School student Amara Soffos earned a Certificate of Excellence, and three students—Christa Clark (Northern High), Joey Crunkleton (Northern High), and Jasmine Delong (Southern Middle)—earned a Certificate of Merit.
The Grand, Excellence, and Merit Award winners will advance to the Prince George’s Regional Science Fair that will be held on March 18, 2017 at Flowers High School.
Seven STEM professional organizations presented awards in special categories. These awards are judged independently by the organizations according to their own criteria.
