Hughesville, MD ย – Crews from the Hughesville (Company 2) and Baden volunteer fire departments were dispatched Sunday, April 19 to a report of a large vehicle fire on Slater Drive in Waldorf.
The vehicle, a 24-foot travel trailer, was found engulfed in heavy fire, which was reported around 4 p.m. Crews quickly extinguished the blaze.ย No injuries were reported.
โThe crews remained on the scene to hit hot spots, perform overhaul and assist the state fire marshal with the investigation,โ stated Company 2 firefighter Kyle Compton in a posted report on the incident.
According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the blaze was sparked by an electrical malfunction. “The fire was determined to be caused from an overloaded electrical cord,” stated Dfm. Z. Dell. “The occupant was displaced and is being assisted by the American Red Cross.”
Damage to the structure and contents of the trailer is estimated at $20,000. The structure’s owner was identified as Gloria Brown and the occupant was identified as William Douglas.
