WALDORF, Md. — Multiple cats were rescued and a home was damaged following a working fire Tuesday afternoon in Waldorf.

The fire was reported around 2:54 p.m. on April 7, 2026, in the 12400 block of Hidden View Place. Initial callers reported flames coming from the side of the home, with concerns that several pets were still inside.

Approximately 49 fire and EMS personnel from Charles and Prince George’s counties responded to the scene. Engine 33 arrived to find active fire showing from the side of the residence. A walk-around revealed a one-story front and two-story rear home with a walkout basement.

Command was established shortly after arrival, with crews assigned to fire attack and search operations. Firefighters initiated an aggressive interior attack while teams worked to locate animals inside.

During operations, several cats were rescued from the home, including from the basement area. Dispatch notes also indicated the possibility that additional pets may have been inside during the incident.

The fire was quickly brought under control, with additional units remaining on standby. A water supply was established, and tanker units were later released from the scene.

Utilities to the home were secured, and the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office was requested to investigate the cause of the fire. SMECO also responded to assist at the scene.

No injuries were reported.

The home sustained damage, and the occupant was displaced. The American Red Cross is assisting the affected family.
