LEONARDTOWN, Md. — Cedar Lane Senior Living Community has been awarded $1.5 million in federal funding through the Fiscal Year 2026 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) Appropriations bill, secured by U.S. Senators Angela Alsobrooks and Chris Van Hollen.
The funding will support Evergreen, a new 70-unit affordable senior housing community developed through Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC). Scheduled to open in 2028, Evergreen will significantly expand housing options for income-eligible older adults in Southern Maryland.
Evergreen will feature safe, modern and energy-efficient apartment homes designed to promote dignity, independence and aging in place. The project responds to the growing demand for affordable senior housing in St. Mary’s County and the surrounding region.

Construction on Evergreen is expected to begin in 2027, with completion projected in 2028.
