
WALDORF, Md. — Charles County has approved two new housing projects to bring 328 townhomes to Waldorf. The new homes will be built in the Horizon neighborhood of the Village of Wooded Glen, part of the St. Charles planned community.
The projects were approved during a May 19 Planning Commission meeting. Both sites are located in Neighborhood 5, just east of La Plata Road (Route 488), and are being developed by St. Charles Community LLC. No members of the public provided comments during the designated comment period.
What’s Being Built
The two approved plans include:
- 181 townhomes on Parcels C and D (Plan ID: SDP-240012)
- 147 townhomes on Parcels F and G (Plan ID: SDP-240038)

Approval Timeline and Overview of the St. Charles Development Area
The Village of Wooded Glen is one of several neighborhoods within the larger St. Charles master-planned community, which spans more than 7,300 acres in Waldorf. The area was approved in 2014 for up to 24,730 homes and includes key community features like the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs stadium.
This specific development has been in the works for several years and moved through multiple stages of approval:
- A concept plan was approved in April 2021
- A preliminary plan was approved in December 2022
- A revised version was approved in July 2023
