LA PLATA, Md. — Fall drink season is in full swing, and coffee shops across Charles County are embracing it with creative menus and cozy vibes. From caramel apple butter lattes to hot apple crisps, we visited four local spots to sample their seasonal offerings and highlight what makes each one special. Whether you’re a coffee lover, a doughnut enthusiast or just looking for a new favorite hangout, there’s something here worth checking out.

Here are some local coffee shops and fall drinks to try in Charles County:

B. Doughnut

B. Doughnut is located at 6700 Crain Highway in La Plata. They’re best known for their doughnuts, and let us say, that reputation is well-earned. It’s the kind of doughnut that prompts an instant reaction — one bite in, and it’s hard not to exclaim out loud, “Wow! Now that’s a doughnut!”

Their fall drink menu gets points for creative names, particularly the “Taylor’s Version,” a latte with cinnamon and maple spice syrup. Cinnamon is a well-rounded fall spice, so we got a simple cinnamon sugar doughnut and paired it with a sweet Spanish latte to eat under their picturesque faux Japanese cherry blossom tree.

Market At The Charles

This little bakery and coffee shop is located inside The Charles restaurant at 417 Charles Street, La Plata. The market and coffee shop are leaning into fall décor and have adorable fall specialty items ranging from knitted oven mitts to pumpkin cake pops. The BayNet got to explore the gourmet items while we waited for our drinks and we really could’ve spent much more time at the market.

The barista told us she personally came up with all of the drinks on their fall beverage menu and that they’d wanted to do something a little different than the usual pumpkin spice. We took a break from caffeine and had a refreshing hot apple crisp, which hit the spot.

Wee Bean Coffee Roasters

Wee Bean Coffee Roasters, at 6580 Crain Highway in La Plata, is one of the best-reviewed local coffee shops in the area, and for good reason. This is what you think of when you think of a local coffee shop: friendly staff, warm and trendy ambiance, and creative drinks. There was also plenty of indoor and outdoor seating to sit and work or meet up with friends.

Wee Bean’s fall drink menu had two “Gilmore Girls” references, which we personally appreciated. It added to the whimsy. The BayNet got an iced caramel apple butter latte, and it was sweet, delicious and quintessentially fall.

Donut Connection

This no-frills doughnut and coffee chain is located at 3480 Leonardtown Road in Waldorf. They have many other locations, so if this is your spot, you’re in luck. The BayNet was tipped off that this Waldorf location has the “best cup of black coffee” in town, so we had to see for ourselves. We were excited to see that some fall doughnut flavors were added to the menu. The apple spice was the perfect tart/sweet combo for fall.
