BRYANTOWN, Md. — The Charles County Literacy Council will bring back its popular Trivia with a Twist fundraiser on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, raising funds to support free adult literacy services across Charles County.

The event will run from 5 to 10 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic School, 13735 Notre Dame Place, Bryantown, MD 20617, with a happy hour beginning at 5 p.m. Teams will compete in trivia while enjoying appetizers, desserts, beverages, and a silent auction.

Trivia Night is a key annual fundraiser for the nonprofit, which has provided free, confidential, one-on-one adult tutoring since 1964. Programs support adults working to improve reading, writing, and comprehension skills, basic math, GED and National External Diploma Program preparation, ASVAB readiness for military service, English language learning, and citizenship goals. Tutoring is tailored to each learner’s objectives.

National data show that an estimated 18 to 20 percent of American adults struggle with functional illiteracy, which can affect their ability to understand medical instructions, complete job applications, help children with schoolwork, or vote independently. The council addresses those barriers by training volunteer tutors and supplying all instructional materials at no cost to learners, relying entirely on community support.

“We are the lucky ones—we can read this,” said Linda Heimpel, CCLC program coordinator. “With the community’s help, someone else will finally learn to read it too.”

Community members, businesses, and organizations are encouraged to participate by forming teams, attending the event, or donating items such as gift cards, themed baskets, merchandise, or services for the silent auction. Sponsorship opportunities begin at $150, learn more here.
