LA PLATA, Md. — Charles County Recreation, Parks & Tourism is bringing back its Youth Field Hockey League this fall for a second season, continuing its mission to promote athleticism, sportsmanship and personal development among young residents. Designed for both new and returning players, the league kicks off practices the week of Aug. 11 and offers a high-energy, team-based environment where athletes can develop their skills and build confidence for future high school-level competition.

The program, open to players ages 5 through 14, will run from Aug. 12 to Sept. 30, 2025, with practices and matches scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Turkey Hill Park in La Plata.

Following a successful inaugural season in 2024, the countywide league has been structured to serve players of all skill levels. Participants will be divided into age-based divisions to ensure fair and engaging competition:

  • Mini Division (ages 5–8): 5v5 format, no goalies
  • Junior Division (ages 9–10): 8v8 format, with goalies
  • Intermediate Division (ages 11–12): 8v8 format
  • Senior Division (ages 13–14): 11v11 full field play

All players will receive a uniform. Registration costs $90 per participant and is open to both residents and nonresidents. Individual registration is required.

Required equipment includes a regulation field hockey stick (available if needed), field hockey-specific shin guards, a mouth guard, cleats or turf shoes, and optional goggles for field players. Players must be at least 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2025.
