Charles County’s Draft 2017 Land Preservation, Parks and Recreation Plan
Notice is hereby given that the Charles County Board of Commissioners will hold a Public Hearing on Charles County’s draft 2017 Land Preservation, Parks, and Recreation Plan (LPPRP), on June 13, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the County Commissioner’s Meeting Room located in the County Government Building, 200 Baltimore Street, La Plata, Maryland.

The State of Maryland requires counties to update their Land Preservation, Parks and Recreation Plan (LPPRP) every five years, one year prior to the revision of the statewide Maryland Land Preservation, Parks and Recreation Plan. The LPPRPs qualify local governments for State Program Open Space (POS) grants and other programs related to three land resource elements: Recreation and Parks; Agricultural Land Preservation; and Natural Resource Conservation.

The Charles County Draft 2017 LPPRP has been developed in accordance with guidelines provided in 2016 by the Maryland Departments of Planning and Natural Resources. The updated Plan contains key information, goals, and recommendations to guide the County’s management and enhancement of its parks, recreation facilities and open space assets for the next five years.

The Draft Plan can be found on the County’s website. Citizens wishing to make verbal or written comments are encouraged to attend the hearing. Written comments may be submitted in lieu of oral comments or to expand upon oral comments. Written comments will be accepted through June 27, 2017, and should be forwarded to Department of Recreation, Parks, and Tourism, 8190 Port Tobacco Road, Port Tobacco, MD 20677 or via email.
