CHARLOTTE HALL, Md. — On Nov. 25, 2024, the St. Mary’s County Planning Commission officially approved the construction of a new Starbucks in Charlotte Hall. The coffee shop will be located near the intersection of Three Notch Road and Traveled Lane, in the same area as Burger King, McDonald’s, and Chipotle. A Chick-fil-A and an Aldi are also slated to open nearby.
The new Starbucks will occupy 2,236 square feet, marginally smaller than the original design, which was planned for a location near the Charlotte Hall Royal Farms. The new location was selected to reduce traffic impacts.
The developer paid particular attention to the design of the Starbucks drive-through, which will be 280 feet from the pickup window to the entrance and capable of accommodating approximately 15 vehicles at a time. The layout is designed to prevent conflicts with other nearby drive-throughs, such as Chick-fil-A, known to have among the busiest drive-throughs of any restaurant in the country.
To accommodate increased traffic, improvements have been made to Traveled Lane, and a traffic light will be added at the intersection of Traveled Lane and Three Notch Road. Additionally, the right lane on nearby Golden Beach Road will become a right-turn-only lane to facilitate traffic flow.
Public response to the project has been mixed. While some residents expressed excitement about the new Starbucks on social media, others raised concerns about its potential impact on local coffee shops.
No timeline has been announced for the completion of the project.

I need a steakhouse Olive Garden and Carrabba’s instead of fast food fast food everywhere
How about no more chain restaurants in their pre-packaged frozen food period?
The Commissioners have no imagination.
They keep building more of what we don’t need more of; restaurants, shopping centers, and homes for those with lots of money. How about building homes that are truly for people making lower incomes and more shelters to get the homeless people off the streets?
Yes, because we need more overpriced coffee.
