wanted on felony charges southern maryland

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Myesha Lynette Newman, 37, of Waldorf, failed to appear in Calvert County District Court on Dec. 1, 2025, for a scheduled trial on felony charges of theft of $1,500 to under $25,000 and theft scheme of $1,500 to under $25,000. A warrant for her arrest is currently active.

Newman had originally been scheduled for a preliminary inquiry on June 2, 2025, but failed to appear. After several postponements, the trial was rescheduled for Dec. 1, which she again failed to attend.

According to police reports, law enforcement contacted the director of a local nonprofit organization who reported that a large sum of money had gone missing from bank deposits and was allegedly believed to have been taken by a recently terminated staff member. The individual was identified as Myesha Lynette Newman.

According to the reports, Newman had been employed as the organization’s accounting clerk and was allegedly responsible for counting money from closed registers, sealing funds into deposit bags and transporting them to the bank.

Court documents state that discrepancies involving missing funds allegedly began shortly after Newman was hired. An internal investigation by the nonprofit reportedly found that Newman had signed off on several transactions for which the corresponding deposits were never made to the bank. The total amount of missing funds was reported to be $2,831.25.

Newman’s current whereabouts remain unknown.

Under Maryland law, theft of $1,500 to under $25,000 and theft scheme of $1,500 to under $25,000 each carry a maximum penalty of five years of incarceration and a $10,000 fine.
