LEONARDTOWN, Md. — A Chesapeake Beach man has been indicted on multiple felony charges, including home invasion and first-degree assault, after what police describe as a domestic-related incident in Great Mills. Michael Bronson Andrade, 48, of Chesapeake Beach, was arrested following a manhunt and is being held without bond at St. Mary’s County Detention Center, according to court records.
Andrade faces charges in two separate cases involving the same victims. The most serious charges stem from a Sept. 7 incident in which police allege he unlawfully entered a residence on Longfields Village Drive and brandished a handgun. Charging documents state Andrade withdrew the firearm from his waistband and racked the slide in front of a victim inside the home.
The Sept. 7 incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. when a resident reported Andrade’s vehicle entering the neighborhood. According to police reports, a witness said Andrade displayed what appeared to be a handgun and made threatening statements.
Court records show Andrade is prohibited from possessing firearms because of prior felony convictions. The charges include home invasion under Maryland Criminal Law Section 6-202(b), which carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison. First-degree assault under Section 3-202 carries a maximum sentence of 25 years, while the firearm enhancement under Section 4-204(b) adds potential penalties under state law.
A separate incident was reported on Sept. 4 at the same residence. Police reports allege Andrade physically restrained a victim during an argument and damaged property at the home. A witness told deputies Andrade later threatened to burn the house down and shoot those inside. These allegations led to additional charges, including second-degree assault, arson threat and malicious destruction of property.
Judge Karen Christy Holt presided over Andrade’s bail review hearing on Sept. 8, where he was ordered held without bond in both cases, court records state. Andrade waived his right to an attorney during his initial appearance. A preliminary hearing in the Sept. 7 case is scheduled for Oct. 7, while a trial for the Sept. 4 charges is set for Oct. 16.
All proceedings are scheduled to take place in St. Mary’s County District Court in Leonardtown. The St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney’s Office is prosecuting both cases.
