$150K Fire Damages Chesapeake Beach Home; Family Safe, Red Cross Assisting

CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. — A Chesapeake Beach family is receiving community support after a house fire Saturday night, May 31, 2025, left their home uninhabitable and destroyed nearly all of their belongings.

The fire broke out around 8:55 p.m. in the 4000 block of Summer City Boulevard. Crews from the North Beach Volunteer Fire Department arrived to find flames coming from a bedroom window. Two residents safely escaped before firefighters arrived, aided by a working smoke alarm and a closed bedroom door—factors fire officials say prevented injury and helped contain the flames.

Roughly 50 firefighters responded and brought the single-alarm fire under control within 20 minutes. The fire was contained to a bedroom with minor extension into the hallway. Damage is estimated at $125,000 to the structure and $25,000 to the contents. No injuries were reported.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating, but officials said the fire is not considered suspicious.

The displaced family, still grieving the loss of a loved one earlier this year, is now facing the challenge of rebuilding. A GoFundMe campaign organized by a family member has raised more than $1,300 toward a $10,000 goal.

“Her home was tragically destroyed in a fire,” the post reads. “She has lost everything — her belongings, her memories, and her sense of security.”

The American Red Cross is providing assistance as recovery efforts begin. Donations to help the family can be made here.
