CHARLES COUNTY, Md. – In a riveting interview, conducted by The ArtsFam’s Lindsey Pommerenck and James LePore, the spotlight shined brightly on the multi-talented entertainer Reggie Rice. As a three-time DC Comedy Magician of the Year, Reggie’s charisma and skill have earned him acclaim both locally and beyond, headlining on cruise ships and preparing to embark on a tour with his Grand Illusion Show “Fool of Illusions” for the 2024/2025 season.

Reflecting on his origins, Reggie fondly recounted performing magic tricks at birthday parties at Hyperspace Fun Center in Hollywood, Md. A pivotal moment occurred when a father tipped him $5 after witnessing a trick, sparking Reggie’s realization that magic could be more than just a hobby—it could be a livelihood.

Growing up, Reggie’s passion for entertainment blossomed through participation in school plays and his natural inclination towards humor, earning him the title of the class clown.

When asked about alternative career paths, Reggie confessed he would likely pursue acting or another form of entertainment. Despite his growing fame, Reggie remains grounded, revealing that he continues to build many of his illusions himself, imbuing his shows with a personal touch.

James LePore’s visit to Reggie’s secretive warehouse provided a glimpse into the magician’s creative process, albeit with a touch of mystery. Reggie’s performances are not just about magic; they’re immersive experiences, filled with storytelling, music, and dance, drawing inspiration from his love for movies and iconic figures like Michael Jackson.

Navigating between the intimacy of close-up magic and the grandeur of stage illusions, Reggie finds joy in both, each offering unique rewards. His upcoming “Fool of Illusions” show on February 16, 2024, at Chopticon High School (CHS) serves not only as a showcase of his talents but also as a heartfelt fundraiser for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, honoring a friend lost to the disease.

Alyssa Hammett is a CHS sophomore whose family received terrible news three years ago when her stepfather was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia – one of the most aggressive cancers out there. Despite a courageous battle, enduring many different treatments and transplants, Alyssa’s stepfather passed away in December 2022. Alyssa hopes that her generation will bring an end to cancer. This fundraiser is a start!

Profits from ticket sales will benefit Alyssa’s team New Fights/Same Champs’ fundraiser campaign as part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Student Visionaries of the Year (SVOY) program. Reflecting on recent milestones, Reggie shared his experience performing at the International Brotherhood of Magicians, where he received praise from his idols-turned-friends, including Lance Burton and Jeff McBride. Notably, renowned illusionist Jim Steinmeyer lauded Reggie’s stage presence, comparing it to that of the late Doug Henning, a compliment Reggie holds dear. As a testament to his rising status in the magic community, Reggie graced the cover of “The Link Ring,” the industry’s premier magazine.

The interview concluded with Reggie captivating The ArtsFam Team with mesmerizing magic tricks, leaving Lindsey and James eager for more. As Reggie continues to dazzle audiences worldwide, his local supporters eagerly anticipate his next performance.
