maryland barn fire

CLEMENTS, Md. — A GoFundMe campaign is gaining support as the community rallies around a local father of 11 whose saw mill was heavily damaged in a barn fire earlier this month.

As of Feb. 16, 2026, the fundraiser has raised $5,315 toward its $7,000 goal through 39 donations.

The fire occurred at approximately 10:20 a.m. on Feb. 12 at the saw mill in the 40350 block of Big Chestnut Road. Fire crews arrived to find a 100-foot by 40-foot barn fully engulfed in flames. Due to limited hydrant access in the rural area, a tanker task force was requested to shuttle water to the scene. Big Chestnut Road at Budd Creek Road was shut down for several hours as crews battled the blaze.

According to the online fundraiser, the fire destroyed the storage barn and caused significant damage to a recently financed shaving mill and conveyor system.

“Glendon is a hardworking Mennonite man and a devoted father of 11 children,” the organizer wrote. “Early this morning, Glendon faced a devastating setback when his recently financed shaving mill caught fire. The blaze not only destroyed his storage barn but also caused significant damage to his conveyor setup, leaving him unable to continue the work that supports his large family.”

The fundraiser states that Glendon has long provided affordable tree work and logging services to residents in the area and has assisted neighbors in need over the years.

“All financial or building contributions will go directly to Glendon to restore the saw mill to working order,” the post reads. “Without the mill, providing for his family will be out of reach.”

Organizers are seeking monetary donations as well as building materials such as tin roofing, lumber, screws and nails to help rebuild the structure and equipment.
