ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. — Chamber Orchestra of Southern Maryland in Concert (COSMIC) is joining with St. Maries Choral Arts to add an exciting holiday show to their schedule. This year, the two organizations are coming together on Dec. 13 and 14 for “Gloria”, a holiday celebration that includes classical and hymnal favorites.
The performance has two dates: the Saturday, Dec. 13, performance is at Huntingtown High School in Calvert County starting at 3 p.m. The Sunday, Dec. 14, performance is at the Nancy R. and Norton T. Dodge Performing Arts Center in St. Mary’s City, also starting at 3 p.m. Both shows are free to the public.
Described by COSMIC board member Jeannie Miller-Bologna as “a joyful musical celebration,” the concert will include individual performances by both the orchestra and the choir, as well as several collaborations. Songs include “Greensleeves,” “O Holy Night,” “Gloria” and much more.
Like COSMIC’s regular events, tickets are not required for this holiday concert. It is free to the public, in a continued effort to bring chamber music to a wider audience in Southern Maryland and highlight the many talented musicians in our area.
COSMIC’s mission is to share their love of classical music and make sure people of all generations can find enjoyment in the music and their shows. This year, the orchestra is celebrating its 30th birthday and has recently brought in director Will Esterling.
St. Maries Choral Arts also aims to “serve and enhance” the artistic needs of people in Southern Maryland, and is directed by Bethany Alvey. Both Esterling and Alvey will direct the “Gloria” show.
