WALDORF, Md. — A Waldorf man has been charged with drug possession following a traffic stop and vehicle pursuit in Charles County that ended after a crash and foot chase, according to court records.
Kalon Leroy Taylor, 18, of Waldorf, was arrested Feb. 3, 2026, after officers with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office encountered a vehicle parked in a shopping center lot on Gallery Place and observed behavior they described as suspicious.
According to the statement of probable cause, an officer conducting patrol in the area observed a silver Toyota Prius parked with its engine running. The vehicle was occupied by two males, and the officer reported seeing the passenger reaching toward the rear passenger seat area. Authorities noted the location had been the subject of previous calls for service related to criminal activity.
A registration check showed the vehicle’s registration was suspended. After several minutes, the vehicle exited the parking lot and traveled onto St. Charles Parkway. The officer initiated a traffic stop, but the driver accelerated and failed to stop, leading officers on a pursuit through several roadways in Waldorf.
Court records state the vehicle continued through multiple intersections and ultimately became involved in two traffic crashes before stopping. Both occupants exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The driver was taken into custody near the crash scene, while Taylor was apprehended shortly afterward at a different location without further incident.
During an inventory search of the vehicle, officers reported locating suspected oxycodone pills and cannabis inside a cross-body style bag found on the passenger-side floorboard, within reach of where Taylor had been seated. Investigators said the pills were identified as oxycodone, a Schedule II controlled dangerous substance, using a pill identifier. Additional items recovered from the vehicle included personal belongings and clothing.
Taylor was transported for medical evaluation due to his involvement in the crashes and was later charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance not including cannabis, a misdemeanor offense under Maryland law.
Court records show Taylor was released on his own recognizance the same day.
A trial scheduling hearing is set for March 24 in Charles District Court.
