WALDORF, Md. — A Waldorf man is being held without bond after deputies arrested him in connection with a stolen vehicle investigation, according to court documents.

Steven Wayne Sams Jr., 46, of Waldorf, is charged with felony theft of property valued between $1,500 and $25,000.

According to a statement of probable cause, on Feb. 6, 2026, a Charles County Sheriff’s Office deputy received a License Plate Reader alert for a gray Chevrolet Aveo bearing Maryland registration. The vehicle had been reported stolen from Charles County on Feb. 3.

The deputy located the vehicle traveling southbound along Route 301 near the Charles County and Prince George’s County line. While driving westbound on Holly Lane in Waldorf, the deputy observed the vehicle pass heading eastbound. The deputy followed the vehicle from Holly Lane onto Route 925 South, where it turned onto Oak Manor Drive before returning to Route 925 North.

At that point, emergency lights and sirens were activated and a felony traffic stop was conducted. Authorities state Sams was the sole occupant of the vehicle. He was taken into custody without further incident and identified through his Maryland driver’s license.

Investigators confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen. Court documents state the vehicle belonged to a Charles County resident and had a value of at least $1,500 but less than $25,000.

Sams was transported to the Charles County Detention Center and charged accordingly. He was initially held without bond following his arrest on Feb. 6. After a bail review hearing on Feb. 9 before Judge Patrick J. Devine in Charles County District Court, he remains held without bond.

A trial officer scheduling hearing is set for March 11, 2026, in Charles County District Court.
