PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — A Washington, D.C. man is facing a lengthy list of felony and misdemeanor charges after authorities allege he led deputies on a dangerous, high-speed pursuit through Prince Frederick while intoxicated and with three children inside the vehicle.
Chad Edwin Jenkins, 35, of Washington, D.C., is charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment, three counts of neglect of a minor, four counts of reckless endangerment, possession of a controlled dangerous substance (not cannabis), possession of drug paraphernalia, four counts of intoxicated endangerment, obstructing and hindering, resisting arrest, and credit card unlawful receipt, according to court records.
Traffic Stop Turns Into Multi-Road Pursuit
According to the statement of probable cause, a Calvert County sheriff’s deputy observed a silver 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class traveling southbound on North Solomons Island Road on Feb. 27, 2026. The vehicle’s driver-side taillight was reportedly inoperable, and the vehicle was weaving within its lane and traveling below the posted speed limit.
When the deputy activated emergency equipment to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle accelerated and began a pursuit that moved through several major roadways in Prince Frederick, including Church Street, Main Street, Dares Beach Road, Auto Drive, Prince Frederick Boulevard, and Chapline Place.
Authorities allege Jenkins failed to stop at multiple red traffic signals, drove through intersections against signals, crossed double yellow lines, entered oncoming lanes of traffic, and reached speeds exceeding 70 miles per hour in posted 30- and 45-mile-per-hour zones.
During the pursuit, the vehicle struck a curb in a traffic circle, then hit a small tree and a fire hydrant before re-entering the roadway. Deputies ultimately conducted a PIT maneuver near Prince Frederick Boulevard and Braschers Boulevard, disabling the vehicle.
Girlfriend And Children Inside Vehicle
Investigators reported that five occupants were inside the vehicle at the time, including Jenkins’ girlfriend and three minors ages 14, 12, and 11.
The children were removed from the vehicle and transported by ambulance to Calvert Health Medical Center for evaluation. Jenkins and his girlfriend declined medical treatment.
The multiple counts of neglect of a minor, reckless endangerment, and intoxicated endangerment stem from the alleged risk posed to the children and other motorists during the pursuit.
Signs Of Impairment, Cocaine Located
Deputies reported that Jenkins had slurred and incoherent speech, bloodshot and glassy eyes, droopy eyelids, and a strong odor of alcohol. He was described as unsteady on his feet and refused to submit to an alcohol test after being advised of his rights.
During a search of the vehicle and Jenkins’ person, deputies recovered:
- A digital scale with residue
- Multiple unused plastic baggies commonly used to package narcotics
- An additional digital scale
- An ice cream scoop containing residue
- A bottle of vodka
- Cocaine, a Schedule II controlled dangerous substance
Investigators also located a credit card in Jenkins’ pocket that did not belong to any occupant of the vehicle.
The ice cream scoop and scale with residue were submitted for controlled dangerous substance testing, and other items were entered into evidence.
Court Proceedings
Jenkins was initially held without bond following his arrest on Feb. 28, 2026. A bail review hearing was held March 2, 2026, before Judge Michelle R. Saunders in Calvert District Court, where he was again ordered held without bond.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 30, 2026, in Calvert District Court.
