BRYANS ROAD, Md. — An Accokeek man is facing misdemeanor charges after police say he trespassed at a Bryans Road business on New Year’s Day and was later found in possession of drug paraphernalia during processing at the detention center.
Derrick Larnell Brown, 37, was arrested on Jan. 1, 2026, after officers were dispatched to the Dash In convenience store on Indian Head Highway in Bryans Road for a reported trespass. According to charging documents, police made contact with the store’s manager, who identified Brown as an individual who had previously been barred from the property.
Officers reported that Brown entered the store to use the restroom despite having been notified that he was no longer permitted on the premises. Records indicate the barring had been issued days earlier, and police determined there was probable cause to place Brown under arrest for trespassing on private property.
Brown was transported to the Charles County Detention Center, where a body scanner detected objects in his clothing. A subsequent search conducted by correctional staff recovered a small glass crack pipe containing steel wool, along with a small metal pick and a lighter, according to the statement of probable cause.
As a result of the discovery, Brown was additionally charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Both the trespass and paraphernalia charges are misdemeanors under Maryland law.
Court records show Brown was released on his own recognizance the following day. He is scheduled to stand trial on Feb. 17, 2026, in Charles County District Court.
