Charles County is at a crossroads and our quality of life is in jeopardy.
Unfortunately, the Charles County Planning Commission has forwarded to our County Commissioners a draft comprehensive plan that does not reflect the hard, thoughtful and dedicated work of many citizen volunteers. In fact, it does not have the support of the state planning agencies, numerous environmental organizations and perhaps most importantly two of our five county commissioners, Commissioner President Kelly and Commissioner Robinson.
Though the outcome of this plan has yet to be determined, the integrity of the process thus far has been compromised. Therefore, I strongly urge you to attend the hearing on Tuesday, October 29 at 7 pm (sign-up begins at 5:30) at the County Government Building, 200 Baltimore Street, LaPlata, MD 20646 and voice your support for Commissioners Kelly and Robinson in rejecting this proposed plan and sending it back to the Planning Commission.
There is too much at stake, and it is imperative that Commissioners Collins, Davis and Rucci genuinely consider the views of the residents of this county and understand the importance of working with the state planning agencies on matters of such importance.
Like many of you, I believed in and appreciated the process that was established to produce a fair and balanced outcome. I am very disappointed that to date a few members of the planning commission with the support of commissioners Collins, Davis and Rucci advanced a plan that does not reflect widespread public opinion and support. Perhaps with a strong showing and a unified voice, their positions will change.
I look forward to seeing you on the 29th.
