PASADENA, Md. — A former treasurer for a Pasadena youth sports organization is accused of stealing more than $242,000 from the program over several years, prompting concern among families and an investigation by Anne Arundel County police.
Kelley Ann Haley, 45, of Pasadena, was charged April 28, 2026, on a criminal summons following an investigation by the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Financial Crimes Unit.
The case began March 21, 2025, when the president of the Pasadena Buccaneers Athletic Club — a volunteer-run organization that provides sports programming and mentorship for local youth — reported suspected financial discrepancies.
Investigators allege Haley deliberately manipulated the club’s accounting records to conceal debts and alter expenses while serving as treasurer.
According to police, between January 2019 and March 2025, Haley used club-issued debit cards for unauthorized personal purchases and ATM withdrawals. Detectives identified hundreds of transactions totaling more than $242,500.
Haley is charged with theft scheme over $100,000, theft over $100,000, and two counts of embezzlement and misappropriation of funds.
Organization Responds to Allegations
The Pasadena Buccaneers Athletic Club addressed the situation in a message to families, acknowledging concerns following reports about a former member of the organization.
“We are aware of a recent news article regarding allegations involving an individual previously connected to our organization,” the club said in a statement. “We understand this may raise questions or concerns for our families.”
The organization said it maintains financial oversight and accountability measures and that operations are continuing as normal.
“The safety, well-being, and trust of our athletes and families remain our top priorities,” the statement said. “Our focus remains on providing a positive, supportive, and well-managed environment for every athlete.”
Club officials also invited families to attend a general membership meeting scheduled for May 14 at Bucs Field.
The case highlights the financial risks faced by volunteer-run organizations that rely heavily on trust and limited oversight, particularly those serving youth programs.
A preliminary hearing previously scheduled for May 29, 2026, in Annapolis District Court was canceled. A trial is set for July 7, 2026, in District Court in Annapolis.-
