CALIFORNIA, Md. — A Dense Fog Advisory was issued early Thursday morning for much of the region as low visibility created potentially hazardous travel conditions.
The National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington issued the advisory at 7:35 a.m. on March 5, 2026, warning that visibility could drop to one-quarter mile or less in areas of dense fog. The advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m.
The advisory covers portions of Washington, D.C., central, north central, northern and southern Maryland, as well as central, northern, northwest and western Virginia and the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.
Weather officials warn that the reduced visibility could make driving conditions dangerous, particularly during the morning commute. Motorists are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights and allow extra distance between vehicles.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve later in the morning as the fog lifts.
