SUNDERLAND, Md. — A 44-year-old Waldorf woman is facing new felony charges after a Calvert County sheriff’s deputy’s observation at a Sunderland 7-Eleven led to a traffic stop where heroin and distribution materials were allegedly found. The Sunderland traffic stop drug bust unfolded after the deputy observed the woman engaging in what was described as suspicious activity and subsequently committing multiple traffic violations.
The incident began on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2025, when a deputy on patrol observed a blue Subaru Impreza parked at the 7-Eleven on Dalrymple Road for about 15 minutes. According to charging documents, the driver entered and exited the store twice without making a purchase. The deputy identified the driver as Amy Lynn Letcher, 44, of Waldorf.
The deputy followed Letcher as she left the parking lot, initiating a traffic stop after she allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and was clocked on radar traveling 58 mph in a 40-mph zone. As the vehicle was stopping, the deputy reported observing Letcher making furtive movements, dropping her arm down into the driver’s door storage area in an apparent attempt to conceal something.
According to charging documents, Letcher was asked to exit the vehicle. The deputy stated he immediately observed a plastic bag containing a brown rocky substance, suspected to be heroin, in the door’s storage pocket where Letcher had been reaching. A subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly yielded more suspected heroin, cut straws with residue and what the deputy described as an “abundance of packaging materials” consistent with drug distribution.
After being read her Miranda Rights, Letcher reportedly admitted the substance was heroin, which she claimed to cut with “Benzos” and baking soda.
Letcher was arrested and charged with felony possession with intent to distribute narcotics, as well as misdemeanor possession of CDS and paraphernalia. Under Maryland law, the felony charge of possession with intent to distribute a narcotic like heroin carries a maximum penalty of up to 20 years in prison.
Court records show Letcher was released on a $10,000 unsecured personal bond following her arrest. A hearing is currently scheduled for Sept. 18, 2025.
