UPDATE – 2/18/2025 – Prince Frederick Man Pleads Guilty To First-Degree Murder In 2024 Stabbing Case
PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – On February 15, 2024, Calvert County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to 204 Fairground Rd in Prince Frederick for a reported cardiac arrest. According to court documents, the Calvert County Control Center advised that an unknown subject had been severely beaten and was lying in a field next to the address.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they located an unresponsive black male lying in the grass. Life-saving measures were utilized, and the subject was transported to Calvert Health Medical Center (CHMC). The subject was pronounced deceased a short time later.
Deputy W. Freeland later observed the subject lying on the hospital bed. The subject had a significant amount of blood around their head and neck. There was also a significant amount of vomit in and around the subject’s nose and mouth.
Freeland then searched the subject’s pockets to identify them. Inside the subject’s left front jean pocket was a prescription for medication. The name posted on the prescription was Shaquille Quadry Braxton, 30 of Prince Frederick. Freeland later learned that Braxton resided at 360 Fairground Rd, Prince Frederick. The info was then relayed to detectives at the crime scene.
Forensic Investigator Tracey Smith then arrived at the hospital and conducted an investigation. It was later learned that Braxton had reportedly suffered from multiple stab wounds. According to court docs, several puncture wounds were located under Braxton’s left ear, and a laceration was also found on the right side of Braxton’s neck, below the jawline. Both lacerations contained fresh blood.
Freeland later returned to the crime scene and made his way to the field, where he reportedly observed a significant amount of blood on the grass, sidewalk, and roadway of Silverwood Lane. Freeland observed a trail of blood over a significant area near the electrical box.
A suspect was later developed after learning that Braxton had gotten into an argument with a subject named Thomas Eugene Harris II, 27 of Prince Frederick. Braxton was in a previous relationship and had a child in common with Harris’ girlfriend. The argument had allegedly taken place over Braxton trying to visit his child at 360 Fairground Road, which was the address that Braxton used to reside at.
Deputies then made their way to 360 Fairground Road. After knocking on the door several times with no response, Detectives later called Harris, who answered the phone. Harris advised that his girlfriend, her child, and he were in Prince George’s County. Harris advised that he would voluntarily return to Calvert County and talk to Detectives at the Sheriff’s Office.
Harris then later arrived at the Sheriff’s Office and was read his Advice of Rights. Harris then waived his rights and stated that he wanted to give a statement to Detectives Mudd and McDowell. According to the documents, Harris then advised that he was at 360 Fairground Road at the time of the incident. He later admitted to assaulting Braxton and hitting him multiple times in the head until he was unconscious. At the time of the confession, Harris had visible physical injuries to his hands.
Based on Braxton suffering from multiple stab wounds that led to his death, and Harris confessing to assaulting Braxton, Harris was placed under arrest for First-Degree Murder and First-Degree Assault with an Edged Weapon.
Harris was then transported to the Calvert County Detention Center where he was held without bond.
Harris’ preliminary hearing will take place on March 15, 2024, at 1 p.m. at the Calvert County District Court.
