Dorothy Ann Gibson “Pecky” 88 of La Plata, Maryland passed away on March 26, 2026. She was one of six daughters born to the late Leo and Dorothy Istvan on October 17, 1937 in Hughesville, Maryland. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bryantown, Maryland until she married in 1979 then she became a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bushwood, Maryland. She attended St. Mary’s Notre Dame school all 12 years graduating in 1955. She was a member of The Catholic Daughters of America Court Bryantown #771. Shortly after graduating she started career at SMECO in Hughesville, Maryland. She retired after 37 years of service due to health conditions. She was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad for 16 years. Pecky loved to travel; she visited Rome, Hawaii, Italy, Fatima, Ireland, Portugal, Switzerland, and Ocean City, Maryland.
She later married Joseph “Skip” Gibson on May 24, 1979. Together they enjoyed traveling to NASCAR races, her favorite driver was Cale Yarbrough. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, and plastic canvas. She enjoyed her Sunday’s spending time with her sisters, hanging out, going to dinner, and shopping.
Even though she had no children of her own, she had 13 nieces and nephews whom she cherished and loved as her own. Pecky had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone.
Pecky is survived by her sisters Rose “Bootsie” McPherson and Shirley Albarado, and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Leo and Dorothy Istvan, her husband, Joseph “Skip” Gibson, her sisters; Mary Istvan, Betty Mae Therres, Barbara “Sugar” Marshall, and her niece, Donna Bonds.
Pecky loved angels; she is now in heaven with all the beautiful angels. Fly high, Pecky with your beautiful angel wings. Watch over all of us until we meet again. We love and miss you.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on April 13, 2026, 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, with prayers at 7:00 pm at Brinsfield Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A. 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, Maryland 20622. Mass will be April 14, 2026 at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 23080 Maddox Rd, Bushwood, Maryland 20618. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers are; Joe Therres, Eddie McPherson, Michael McPherson, Rachel Bilbra, Chad Istvan, Jason Boswell, Jeff Marshall, and Michael Marshall.
Honorary pallbearers are; Jimmy Therres, John Therres, Bobby McPherson, and Steve Marshall.
