Fall is here and I for one am excited for Halloween. My plaza, the Wildewood Shopping Center hands out candy from 5 โ 7 pm on Thursday October 31st. We stop at 7pm because we usually run out of candy due to the number of kids so get here early ghost, goblins and Super Heroes. It is a WILDE Night!
My plaza offers this as a way to give back. The money for the candy comes out of our yearly budget but we do it because it provides a safe environment for your kids to enjoy themselves. Parents too.
A few of the Super Heroes of Southern Maryland will be outside my office so make sure you stop by and see them. They have done nothing but great things for our community so stop and say hello and get a picture or two.
Businesses will also have coupons for parents to help save you money as the holiday season rapidly approaches. We have a bunch of great, community oriented businesses to choose from. We just donated $500 to the Food Bank of SoMD and will do so for the Toys for Tots program as well.
But as much fun as Halloween night can be we also need to be mindful of safety for our kids as well. Below are some ideas to think about before the big night.
- Make sure the costume allows your child to see properly. You could always use face paint instead of a mask.
- Check to ensure the costume is not too long so they donโt trip.
- Costumes should also be non-flammable.
- Check for local areas that offer a safe environment for Trick or Treating, like the Wildewood Shopping Center on Halloween night from 5 โ 7pm.
- Travel in groups.
- Visit neighborhoods you know.
- Walk, donโt run, from house to house.
- Go only to houses that are well-lit.
- There is no need to go inside a house for treats.
- Carry a flashlight, glow stick,
