St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s deputies arrested the driver of a Ford Winstar minivan for driving while intoxicated Thursday evening after she allegedly caused a three-car pileup at the intersection of Routes 235 and 4 in California.
The accident occurred on northbound Route 235 in the turning lane for Route 4 (St. Andrews Church Road) at approximately 9:15 p.m. It also involved a Dodge Neon with two occupants and a BMW 325 XI with four occupants.
A backseat passenger in the BMW was injured and was taken by the Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad to a local hospital. All other vehicle occupants signed refusals for medical treatment.
The driver of the Windstar was given a field sobriety test and arrested on the scene for driving while intoxicated.
The Bay District Volunteer Fire Department, Lexington Park Rescue Squad, Charles County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police also responded to the scene.
