St. Mary’s County deputies responded to a burglary in progress in the South Essex neighborhood of Lexington Park, before dawn Friday. Deputy First Class Sarah Lacy found Leslie Ann Almberg, 27 of Leonardtown, in the area of the residential burglary.

Almberg could not provide a reason for being in the area at such an unsuaul hour.

DFC Lacey noticed on Almberg an odor of alcohol and she was having trouble maintaining balance. DFC Lacey told Almberg she was being detained until Deputies had an opportunity to investigate the residential burglary. When DFC Lacey put her hand on Almberg’s shoulder to escort her from the area, Almberg turned in attempt to hit DFC Lacey. DFC Lacey arrested Almberg for assault at which point Almberg became more belligerent and began yelling obscenities.

Almberg resisted and refused to put her feet in the patrol vehicle so the door could be shut. Deputy Kevin Meyer, assisting DFC Lacey, attempted to secure Almberg in the vehicle. Almberg head butted Deputy Meyer and kicked Sgt. Christopher Medved.

Almberg’s struggle dislodged the patrol vehicle’s window. When she was finally secure, she was transported to the Detention Center.

Almberg was charged with five counts of assault, failure to obey a lawful order of a police officer, public intoxication and destruction of property.ย
