Dumpster Ignites At Valley Lee Transfer Station

VALLEY LEE, Md. – A dumpster fire at the Valley Lee Transfer Station last week was quickly contained through the swift action of the Second District Volunteer Fire Department & Rescue Squad, Inc. and the St. Mary’s County Department of Public Works (DPW).

DPW crews sprung into action, using equipment to spread out the burning rubbish. This allowed firefighters to extinguish the flames completely. The fire was under control within minutes, and fire crews remained on the scene to keep the smoldering debris in check until DPW could arrive.

The collaborative effort between the fire department and DPW prevented the fire from escalating and ensured the safety of the community.

Shortly after the trash was spread and accessible, the fire was completely extinguished and firefighters could return to service. The scene was then turned over to St. Mary’s County DPW.

  1. Somebody put ‘ashes’ from their fire ring/ pit, in their trash? Gotta make sure there’s no coals/ embers from last night! Very irresponsible.
