St. Leonard, MD – Calvert Countyโ€™s incumbent sheriff, Mike Evans, is seeking a fifth-consecutive four-year term in the November General Election. Evans, who garnered nearly 52 percent of the vote in Juneโ€™s Republican Primary, held a fundraiser at the St. Leonard Volunteer Fire Department Saturday, Sept. 22. Several other Republicans running in the General Election were on hand to urge on attendees to get out and vote.

The speakers included incumbent commissioners Mike Hart and Steve Weems, Board of Education member Kelly McConkey, who is the Republican candidate for commissioner in the Third Election District, Delegate Jerry Clark, who is seeking a full four-year term in the District 29C race; at-large commissioner candidate Buddy Hance and Second Election District commissioner candidate Tim Hutchinson, who like Evans, is a retired Maryland State trooper. Another Republican, Dr. Derek Sebedra, who is running for Orphans Court judge, also exhorted the crowd to get out the vote.

During his remarks, Evans surprised his wife Susan with a bouquet of roses to mark their 40th wedding anniversary.

As if speeches, roses and great food werenโ€™t enoughโ€”the music of the King of Rock and Roll was performed by Rockinโ€™ Elvis Jim Godbold.

โ€œCalvert is the safest county in Maryland,โ€ said Evans, commending sheriffโ€™s office personnel for their diligence over the past 16 years.
