UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — County residents and visitors will be able to explore Prince George’s County’s historic sites at no cost throughout 2026 as the M-NCPPC Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County, launches a new countywide initiative in commemoration of America’s 250th birthday. The program aims to make local history more accessible, interactive and community-centered.
The M-NCPPC Department of Parks and Recreation has announced the launch of Pastport to History, a year-long program encouraging residents and visitors to explore historic sites across Prince George’s County while learning the stories of the people who shaped the region.

How The Program Works
Participants will pick up a Pastport booklet at any participating historic site operated by the department. At each M-NCPPC historic site, guests will receive a stamp in their Pastport booklet. Collect all seven stamps and enter a drawing for a free trip to any National Trust for Historic Preservation site you choose. The drawing will take place on Dec. 31, 2026.

Bringing Local Stories To The Forefront
Rather than focusing solely on national milestones, Pastport to History centers the lived experiences of Prince Georgians — highlighting the individuals, communities and places that contributed to the county’s development.
Through guided visits, educational programming and interpretive exhibits, the initiative connects the past to the present, inviting residents to reflect on how local history continues to shape everyday life in Prince George’s County.

Part Of A Larger Vision
The Pastport to History initiative is one of several efforts by the department to expand access to cultural and recreational resources. With more than 29,000 acres of parkland and a wide range of programs serving all ages and ability levels, the department continues to emphasize community engagement, education and quality-of-life improvements across the county.
