UPDATE– 6/5/2024 — Dr. Kenneth Ivan Cunningham, M.R.C.V.S., 72, of La Plata, MD has been identified as the victim killed in the accident involving a lawn mower tractor.

LA PLATA, Md. – A fatal lawn mowing accident is under investigation in Charles County. Emergency personnel responded to the scene on June 2, 2024, at approximately 6:55 p.m. at the Animal Clinic of La Plata, located at 6685 Glen Albin Road.
The 911 call was made by a woman who had gone to check on her husband after he failed to return home. Upon arrival, officers found a deceased 73-year-old male pinned between an overturned tractor and a tree. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim’s name has not been released at this time.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the operator of the tractor may have struck a tree stump while mowing, causing the tractor to tip over.
A forensics investigator from the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office was called to the scene. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, led by the La Plata Police Department.
