Washington, DC – On Jan. 29, FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe announced that he will step down, according to several sources. Although McCabe is stepping down, he will remain on the FBI payroll using accrued leave until March when he can take advantage of full retirement benefits.ย ย
McCabe, who served as acting FBI Director for several months after James Comey’s departure, has been under scrutiny from Republicans and Trump for the FBI’s involvement in investigating possible Russian collusion in the 2016 election. In a White House Press Conference following McCabe’s announcement, Sarah Huckabee Sanders claimed that Trump “didnโt play a role in any of that process”.
David Bowdich, a senior level FBI official, is expected to serve as the next deputy FBI directer under Director Christopher Wray.ย
