
NANJEMOY, Md. — A 24-year-old man was rescued from a ravine early Monday, Aug. 25, 2025, after a single-vehicle crash in Nanjemoy.
The accident was reported around 6:04 a.m. in the 8800 block of Ironsides Road. Firefighters and medics initially believed the driver was trapped inside the vehicle, but crews later found he had gotten out on his own and was stranded down the embankment.
Using a Stokes basket, rescuers carried him up to the roadway, where medics treated him for a suspected broken leg. He remained alert throughout the rescue.
Traffic was halted near the intersection with Durham Church Road as crews worked for more than 30 minutes to bring the patient out safely.
He was transported by ambulance to UM Charles Regional Medical Center in stable condition.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
