NANJEMOY, Md. — Emergency crews were dispatched Monday, Jan. 5, 2026, to Port Tobacco Road in Nanjemoy after an initial report of a structure fire with people trapped.

The call was reported at about 10:37 a.m. in the 3300 block of Port Tobacco Road and was initially described as a house fire involving a single-family dwelling. Early dispatch information indicated that people were believed to be trapped.

Fire officials later clarified that no residence was involved and no occupants were trapped. By approximately 10:50 a.m., commanders on scene confirmed the incident involved a camper with a brush fire burning around it. Crews held the response to the initial assignment while working to contain the fire.

The camper was located roughly 900 feet from the roadway. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire has not been released.
