MECHANICSVILLE, Md. – On Monday evening, St. Mary’s County Recreation & Parks was honored to celebrate four additional recipients of the 2025 Will Smith Leadership Award in a ceremony at Margaret Brent Recreation Center.
These players from the R&P Youth Basketball Program demonstrate sportsmanship, passion for the game, and leadership both on and off the court.
The award is named after William Smith, Jr., who tragically lost his life on September 21, 2008. Will was a participant in the R&P Youth Basketball League for six years. He attended Ridge Elementary School, Spring Ridge Middle School and Great Mills High School. He was a special athlete who loved the game of basketball and everyone involved.
