PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Calvert is welcoming five new members to five county commissions and approved one reappointment at the Oct. 7 Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) meeting. There are more than 20 county commissions and volunteer boards that focus on distinct aspects of life and community in Calvert County. Commissions are volunteer organizations that serve a vital role in providing services to Calvert residents and giving them a voice in local matters.

The appointments are as follows:

Dr. Shaiwian Mackall and Diana Wharton (reappointment) to the Commission for Women. The Commission for Women is dedicated to developing opportunities for women, eliminating barriers that prevent them from realizing their full potential, and recognizing the contributions of women in Calvert County.

Brianna Cusick to the Employee Recognition Committee (ERC), which is dedicated to celebrating and supporting Calvert County employees.

Dr. Janette Wysocki to the Environmental Commission, a group that advises Calvert County Government on environmental matters and performs public environmental education through community outreach.

Trevor Hume-Wolanske to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board (PRAB), which was created by the BOCC to support the mission of enhancing quality of life for residents and visitors through a responsive Parks & Recreation (P&R) system.

Stacy Tayman to the Student Safety and Well-Being Advisory Committee (SSWAC). SSWAC was formed to make recommendations intended to enhance the learning environment and improve school culture and climate by considering the latest school safety best practices and making recommendations that position the county’s learning environments to be ahead of new threats, concerns and safety mandates.

Constituent Services Specialist Emily Shrieves added that there is a “new, refreshed look” for the list of vacancies on commissions in Calvert County, and any interested residents will be able to apply directly on that webpage.

The list of vacancies is available on the Volunteer Boards & Commissions page on the Calvert County website.
