MORGANZA, Md. – Sebastian Roldán-Ramos is an 11th grader from Chopticon High School. Sebastian, who dreams of one day becoming a pilot, is a bright young student-athlete who is a member of Chopticon’s soccer team. In 2020, Sebastian was diagnosed with Leukemia. In September 2023, Sebastian was declared “cancer-free”, however, in December, Sebastion was informed that his cancer had returned.
“He has begun more aggressive treatment with chemotherapy and radiation this time around. While trying to stay in good spirits, one can only imagine the toll this is taking on him and his family. Humbly, his family is asking for prayers and good thoughts as he battles cancer for a second time,” the Chopticon Athletic Boosters Club stated in a Facebook post sharing Sebatian’s story and experience so far.
So, the Boosters Club tried to lift Sebastian’s spirits by rallying the community to send him essential items, messages, and gifts! Ever since their initial post, the Boosters Club has been giving periodic updates on Sebastian’s battle.
“We may have been quiet on Facebook, but Sebastian has heard and felt our outpouring of support over the past few weeks. We can’t thank our Braves family enough for all their thoughts and prayers and gifts for Sebastian,” said the Boosters Club.
According to the Boosters Club’s most recent update, Sebastian found himself in the ICU with pneumonia and a bacterial infection in his blood requiring three surgeries. His lungs contained so much fluid, that he was struggling to breathe, received oxygen, and was sleeping about 23 out of 24 hours of the day.
“He will be going to the Ronald McDonald House for a week and then will be back at Children’s for his first Car T-cell therapy treatment. He is still receiving platelets every four hours, hemoglobin every day, and is also getting chemotherapy directing into his bone marrow,” stated the Boosters Club.
“Our BRAVE warrior never gave up and has slowly regained his energy back…He has a very long road ahead of him but is so grateful for all of the love, support, and generosity shared to him and his family during this time.”
To further support Sebastian, they are now selling a student-designed shirt to help raise funds for Sebastian’s family.

“All proceeds will be donated directly to Sebastian and his family to help alleviate the costs of transportation and other necessities,” said the Boosters Club. “Pick-up information will be communicated once the shirts have been ordered and delivered. There’s an option that you can choose to ship to your home so please feel free to share!”
To order your shirt, click here. The fundraiser will close on March 22, 2024, at 11:59 p.m.
They are also still taking donations for any useful items that will make Sebastian’s stay in the hospital a little bit easier.
“We ask that if you would still like to make a donation/card of any kind, that students can drop off items during the day in B116/A Liverman’s room or in the evenings at the concessions stand at Chopticon High School. Games are starting back up at school next week and the stadium concessions will be open for drop off of any items for Sebastian. Photos and messages to be added to Sebastian’s frame can be sent to anliverman@smcps.org at any point in time,” said the Boosters Club.
