Mechanicsville, MD โ€“ A one-story, detached garage was totally destroyed by an early morning fire Wednesday, Aug. 12, state officials reported.

According to the Maryland State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office, the blaze, which was discovered by a passerby shortly after 6 a.m., occurred on Loveville Road in Mechanicsville. No injuries were reported.

โ€œThe accidental fire was a result of a malfunction within one of the vehicles located in the garage,โ€ Dfm. Melissa Decker stated. โ€œThe building and two vehiclesโ€”a Volkswagen and a Ford Explorerโ€”as well as all of the contents, were destroyed as a result of the fire.โ€

Thirty-eight firefighters from Hollywood, Bay District, Leonardtown, Second District, Seventh District, Benedict and Hughesville were dispatched to the one-alarm fire and brought the flames under control in one hour.ย 

Decker identified the owner of the shed as Richard Lathroum.

The estimated damage totals $200,000.
