LA PLATA, Md. — Exciting progress is underway for the Charles County Sports and Wellness Complex, a $53 million project set to transform the former Sears building at St. Charles Towne Center. Designed to serve as a premier recreational hub, the complex will be developed in three phases, beginning with an indoor swimming facility, followed by a sports complex, and culminating in a vibrant recreation, cultural arts, and entertainment district.
A virtual meeting with updates was held on March 24 and can be viewed online now. An in-person session with the same details will take place Wednesday, March 26, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Charles County Government Building auditorium. Another community meeting is scheduled for May 8 to continue the discussions and gather more feedback.
There is still time for the community to share input and be part of the process. Residents are encouraged to participate in upcoming meetings and help shape the future of this exciting project. Key updates from the virtual meeting highlighted the results from previous community engagement events, ensuring that resident voices continue to influence the development of the complex.
