SOUTHERN MARYLAND – Since August 1984, National Night Out has been an annual event that promotes partnerships between local police agencies and communities.

According to National Night Out’s official website, “Millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all fifty states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide on the first Tuesday in August (Texas and select areas celebrate on the first Tuesday in October).”

“Neighborhoods host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts, and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and much, much more.”

According to natw.org, National Night Out has approximately 38 million neighbors and 17,000 communities participating in the festivities.

This year, National Night Out will take place on Tuesday, August 6. Local law enforcement agencies throughout the region have already begun prepping for this exciting event.
