Arrest in southern Maryland

GLEN BURNIE, Md. — A Glen Burnie man has been charged with kidnapping and robbery after police say he tried to force a woman into her vehicle before chasing her down a roadway and stealing her phone.

Officers with the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Eastern District responded around 10:25 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026, to the area of Old Stage Road and Baylor Road for a reported disturbance.

Investigators learned an adult woman was standing next to her parked vehicle when an unknown man approached her, grabbed her arms and attempted to force her inside the vehicle. The woman broke free and ran down Old Stage Road, police said.

The suspect chased her, took her cellphone and fled on foot, according to authorities.

Responding officers obtained a description of the suspect and located him a short distance away, where he was taken into custody without further incident.

Police identified the suspect as 44-year-old Damien Ernest Eldridge of Glen Burnie.

Eldridge is charged with kidnapping, robbery, second-degree assault, theft between $100 and $1,500, malicious destruction of property under $1,000 and false imprisonment. He is being held without bond.

A bail review hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Feb. 18 in Anne Arundel County District Court in Annapolis.
