BALTIMORE – On Friday, February 13, students from Great Mills High School participated in the High School STEM Program, at the “Becoming Everything You Are,” STEM Conference held at the Baltimore Convention Center. The program brought together hundreds of students from across the country for a day of immersive STEM learning and engagement.
For the second consecutive year, the Carolyn E. Parker Foundation sponsored 30 Great Mills High School students to attend the national event. The Foundation’s continued investment reflects its commitment to providing exposure, access, and opportunity to the next generation of leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

From the moment they entered the convention center, the students distinguished themselves. During workshops focused on Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity, they were consistently the first to approach the microphone to ask questions. Their inquiries were thoughtful and forward thinking, demonstrating preparation, intellectual curiosity, and confidence. They were not passive observers. They were active participants in every session they attended.
The Artificial Intelligence sessions challenged students to consider innovation, ethics, and the expanding influence of emerging technologies. Cybersecurity discussions encouraged critical thinking about digital responsibility, data protection, and national security. In each forum, Great Mills students engaged with presenters and panelists in meaningful dialogue that reflected both maturity and ambition.

In addition to attending workshops, students participated in a dynamic career fair featuring nationally recognized companies. They engaged in up close and personal conversations with recruiters and industry professionals about internships, academic preparation, and long term career pathways in STEM fields. For many students, this was their first opportunity to network in a professional conference environment. They approached the experience with professionalism and confidence.
Ms. LaToya Carroll and Ms. Amber Cunningham played an essential role in facilitating the experience and encouraging students to use their voices. Their leadership ensured that students felt empowered to ask bold and thought provoking questions throughout the day.

The Foundation extends appreciation to the Great Mills High School leadership team, especially Mr. BeeJay Dothard, for supporting this opportunity and prioritizing student exposure to high impact STEM experiences. Collaborative partnerships between schools and community organizations continue to create meaningful outcomes for students throughout the region.
By the conclusion of the program, it was evident that the students had gained more than information. They gained perspective, access, and confidence. Experiences such as this reinforce that careers in STEM are attainable and within reach.
Through intentional sponsorship and community partnership, the future of innovation is being shaped one student at a time.
