
La Plata, MD – Charles County will soon have a new judge on its circuit court bench. On Wednesday, Dec. 7 Maryland Governor Larry Hogan announced the appointment of William R. Greer Jr. to the post of circuit court judge. Several other judicial appointments to circuit courts in Baltimore City, Harford and Prince Georgeโs counties were revealed by the governor.
โI want to thank the governor,โ said Greer who told TheBayNet.com that making it through the process and being selected over several outstanding applicants was โhumbling. I intend to work hard to validate the governorโs selection.โ
Greer was one of eight applicants for the new Charles County Circuit Court judgeship. The final three nominees vetted a committee and presented to the governor for consideration were Greer, Patrick J. Devine and Mistey Lynn Metzgar.
Greer is a partner at the Greer Law Firm in La Plata, which represents individuals and businesses in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. He has served in the Maryland National Guard for nearly 30 years. Greer, a colonel and commander of the 58th Troop Command/Joint Task Force Maryland told TheBayNet.com that he plans to retire from the National Guard soon and his appointment to the bench will give him an opportunity to continue community service. โIโm looking forward to serving the public,โ he said.
Greer is a graduate of Washington and Lee University and earned his law degree from the College of William and Mary Marshall-Wythe School of Law.
He said a date for his investiture as not be determined at this time.
