MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — Two people were injured Friday night when a vehicle rear-ended another car at the entrance to Maryland International Raceway and fled the scene without stopping. The hit-and-run crash occurred around 9:23 p.m. on October 10, 2025, at 27861 Budds Creek Road near the intersection of Thompson Corner Road and Bowman Road.
According to dispatch, multiple units from Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the crash including Squad 2 and Engine 23 with 11 personnel. Two people sustained injuries in the collision and were evaluated at the scene. At least one victim was transported to an emergency room for treatment of injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Witnesses report the suspect vehicle is a white Ford F250 or F350 pickup truck with a jacked up left side front end and possibly emergency-style lights mounted on top of the cab. The vehicle fled northbound on Route 234 after the collision without stopping to render aid or exchange information.
One victim’s family member posted on social media describing the incident as a parent’s worst nightmare, stating their daughter was rear-ended at the MIR entrance and the driver showed no decency by fleeing the scene. The victim was checked out at the emergency room and released but remains sore and traumatized from the incident.
Hit-and-run crashes carry serious criminal penalties in Maryland. Drivers involved in crashes resulting in injury who fail to stop face felony charges carrying up to five years imprisonment and significant fines. The criminal investigation remains active as authorities work to identify the suspect driver and vehicle.
Anyone with information about the crash, the suspect vehicle, or who may have camera footage from Route 234 or surrounding areas between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. on October 10 is urged to contact the Maryland State Police or St Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office immediately. Dash camera footage, security camera footage from businesses, or doorbell camera footage from residences along the route could provide crucial evidence.

234 is an East/West route, so please advise how they fled north on that road? Also, how about “damage to the left front” rather than, “a jacked up left side front end”? Journalism is in dire straits…
