Hollywood VFDโ€™s 6th Annual Independence Day fireworks display will be on July 5th this year. The annual celebration has previously been held on the weekend before the 4th of July, but since this year that day falls on a Friday, the fire department decided to do the display on the weekend closest to that, on Saturday July 5th.

The fireworks display is one of the largest in the region. Parking is provided in the large field across from the firehouse so everyone will have a good view of the display.

This event is put on by the members of the Hollywood VFD as a way of giving back and saying thank you to the community that supports them year after year, according to Fire Chief Dennis Brady, Jr.

The Independence Day event is much more than just a fireworks display. Carnival rides and games begin at 5 p.m. with $5 armbands available for purchase for the rides all night. There will be live music by Franklin Square from 6 to 10 p.m. with a free concert before the fireworks show. The Southern Maryland Super Heroes will also be on the carnival grounds.

In addition to the rides and music, whatโ€™s a carnival without carnival food and drinks, which will be available beginning at 5 p.m. Coolers and pets are not allowed on the carnival grounds.

The fireworks display begins at dusk. Thereโ€™s a $5 donation per car for parking.
